MILITARY PROPERTY PUT ON AUCTION IS IN LOW DEMAND IN ST.PETERSBURG

ST.PETERSBURG, October 30 (AVN) - St. Petersburg and the Leningrad region have sold over 24 installations out of military property since December 1998, a spokesman for the North-western department of the Russian Federal Property Fund said on Monday.

The installations worth a total of RUR13.6m (USD488,700) were sold for a little over USD20,000 each, the spokesman told the Military News Agency.

The experience gained in the sales shows that warehouses and trade facilities in the most respectable districts of St. Petersburg and in the recreation zone of the Bay of Finland shores are mostly in demand, the spokesman said.

In general, military property is sold quite slowly, and the chances of their auctioning off make no more than 15 percent. The final price of even the most prestigious installations does not exceed the start price by more than 10 percent.
