FED FORCES IN CHECHNYA TO GET BREAKTHROUGH IN WINTER -- DM

KHANKALA, November 3 (AVN) - The RF military leadership plans to change the situation in Chechnya and complete the rebels destruction during the winter campaign, Defence Minster Igor Sergeev told the Military News Agency.

Sergeyev is finishing the inspection at the Chechen republic. He summed up the results of the training conducted by the 42nd guard motorised rifle division permanently stationed in the republic. The results were summed up in the unified federal group headquarters on Friday. The division is to become the military basis for the stability in the region, Sergeev said.

Judging by the training, Sergeyev stressed that on the whole the division is ready to conduct combat missions. Since the division formation (five months) it went through all the combat grafting stages. Now the new task of the formation completion, experience gaining and operational direction exploring by 2001 is being set. Combat and headquarters readiness practical work should be conducted on the basis of the real combat missions conditions, Segeyev stressed.

The RF Armed Forces still have a lot to do in Chechnya, Sergeyev said. "We truly understand that the mine war is not over yet. The whole personnel will be trained for the mine-protection readiness," he added.
