RF STATE COMMITTEE ON IL-18 CRASH TO MEET AGAIN NOVEMBER 13

MOSCOW, November 4 (AVN) - The state committee on investigation into the IL-18 Coot military transport crash in southern Georgia will hold its next session on November 13, Air Force Commander Anatoly Kornukov told the Military News Agency on Saturday.

Systematisation of the researched material is still in process, Kornukov said. Some more fragments and devices of the plane have been exposed and they might help to clear out the crash causes, he added.

It is already a fact that the crash occurred due to a number of unpredictable occasions which led to the unsanctified deviation from the route and no one on the earth or in the air could detect the plane's position, Kornukov stressed. The weather in the crash area was complicated but guaranteed the favorable outcome of the flight. With the 10 percent cloud amount and its low edge at 450 meters and the visibility of 5km, the pilot was literally lost in the clouds during the maneuver performance and the clash, he added. Judging by the tape-recorder data, the pilot exposed an obstacle just a few second before the clash. He tried to turn upwards but failed.

The main task is to help the relatives of the dead, Kornukov said. The first sums of money were received from the Air Force budget. Moscow region Governor Boris Gromov has already signed a resolution on providing RUR40,000 (USD1,440) to each family. Future decisions will be similar to the Kursk submarine case, Gromov said.
