KHANKALA, November 9 (AVN) - The federal troops command in Chechnya is taking additional measures to protect officials of local administrations, a spokesman for the unified federal headquarters said on Thursday.
The federals are reinforcing garrisons in several district centres of Chechnya, the spokesman told the Military News Agency. Mobile groups of special forces are operating on all important roads, and the personnel of checkpoints is strengthened. Traffic limitations are still in force in Grozny.
According to the spokesman, the security measures will not be lifted before November 15.
The headquarters has learned that rebels are planning acts of sabotage and terrorism in Grozny, Argun, Gudermes, Urus-Martan and the village of Dzhalka in the next few days. The guerrilla activity is especially high in the Urus-Martan district in south-western Chechnya, where some 300 rebels are operating, the spokesman said, citing reconnaissance data.
Meanwhile, detachments under command of notorious warlord Shamil Basayev are relocating towards Chechnya's border with Dagestan, the spokesman noted.
