MOSCOW, November 10 (AVN) - Federal engineers exposed and rendered harmless eight land mines on the roads and two on railroads of Chechnya in the past 24 hours, a source in the unified federal headquarters told the Military News Agency.
As many as 12 makeshift explosive devices were found in Chechen vicinities.
Guerrillas continue to conduct mine warfare in the whole territory of Chechnya, the source said. They placed mines in several fields ready for sowing in the Gudermes district. This provocation was aimed at disrupting the sowing, the source added.
Rebels are going on penetrating to Grozny. According to military, there are over 400 of them ready for wide-scale operations. A total of 47 suspected rebels were detected and 21 small arms were confiscated since Thursday. Local residents voluntarily gave in five assault rifles, a rifle, three grenade launchers, 40 hand grenades and 10 kilos of explosives to law-enforcers.
