RUSSIAN STRATEGIC MISSILE FORCES SUM UP TRAINING RESULTS

MOSCOW, November 14 (AVN) - The enlarged meeting of the Russian Strategic Missile Forces (SMF) military council summed up its activities in 2000, a source in the SMF Staff told the Military News Agency.

Combat readiness of about 90 percent of SMF units, over 80 percent of missile regiments, 70 percent of spacecraft launch and control units, and about 70 percent of missile defence units was regarded as 'good'.

During this year missile troops have successfully launched six intercontinental ballistic missiles, including two Topol-M silo-launched missiles and the first test launch from a mobile launcher.

According to Vladimir Yakovlev, SMF commander, such high results of combat training proved the fact that the overall guideline of forces training was correct.

The military council also discussed problems pertaining to commissioning SMF installations in the town of Baranovichi, Belarus, and Nurek, Tajikistan.
