KHANKALA, November 20 (AVN) - The situation in the Shali, Urus-Martan, and Kurchaloi districts of Chechnya is very tense, a spokesman for the unified federal headquarters told the Military News Agency Monday.
Rebel warlords advise their fighters to kill Russian officers and heads of civil administration, added the spokesman. One of the latest terrorist acts of the guerrillas is an explosion in the building of the Novogroznensky administration and attack on a cafe in Urus-Martan where two servicemen were killed and another two wounded.
Earlier, rebels sought to kill Imam Adayev, who works in a local mosque and is believed to be Akhmat Kadyrov's supporter. Adayev and his relative both suffering lots of wounds were taken to hospital.
The military gained information about active movement of guerrilla groups totalling up to 400 men in the vicinity of Bilty, Kurchaloi, and Meskety villages. One of the groups numbering up to 50 men consists of Arab mercenaries.
Rebels have attacked federal positions 16 times in the past 24 hours. As of Monday morning, one serviceman was killed, two wounded, and one missing. 49 suspected guerrillas were detained following ID check-up procedures.
