KOVROV, Vladimir Region, November 21 (AVN) - The Kovrov Mechanical Plant (KMP) has completed preparations for mass production of a modernised 7.62 mm tank machine-gun adopted by the Russian army under the name of PKTM (Kalashnikov sophisticated tank machine-gun), head of the KMP special design bureau Alexei Isakov told the Military News Agency on Tuesday.
After the modernisation, the machine-gun remained interchangeable with PKT, but became 0.5kg lighter and more technological in production and service, Isakov said. PKTM is coupled with a tank cannon and has a common sight with it.
The machine-gun has no rivals in the world in quality and reliability. It has higher accuracy and grouping of shots, sight reach up to 1,500 m, rate of fire 700 to 800 shots per minute.
According to Isakov, PKTM is to replace the outdated PKT coupled machine-guns on production tanks not only in the Russian Armed Forces but also in other countries.
