MOSCOW, November 28 (AVN) - The Interior Ministry's All-Russian R&D Institute has developed an automatic information-reference system to help detect burglaries, Colonel Vasily Rudenko, deputy chief of the Interior Ministry's main criminal Investigation police department, told reporters.
Its implementation in some regions showed that the system is highly effective as regards prevention and detection of burglaries.
This year, the system helped the Ryazan criminal police arrest 49 thieves that conducted over 150 burglaries throughout the region. Detection capabilities can be further increased thanks to automatic fingerprint database. Currently, they are in service with over 350 city and district police departments. Nevertheless, the detection of burglaries is still insufficient, Rudenko said. This offence accounts for 25 percent of the overall offences against private property. In the past 10 months, a total of 286,255 burglaries were registered, of which 130,000 or over 45 percent remain undetected.
