1 KILLED, 3 WOUNDED IN CHECHNYA'S ALKHAN-KALA SHOOTOUT WITH REBELS

KHANKALA, November 30 (AVN) - Federal troops engaged a rebel group while conducting a search operation in Chechnya's Alkhan-Kala in the past 24 hours, killing five and detaining two guerrillas and suffering one dead and three wounded, a spokesman for the unified federal headquarters in the North Caucasus said on Thursday.

Mobile scout teams detected two more rebel groups hiding in hard-to-reach alpine places, the spokesman told the Military News Agency. The rebel bases were attacked by artillery. A series of search operations carried out in several villages resulted in seizure of over 30 weapons and 50 kg of explosives.
