ARKHANGELSK, North-western Russia, December 5 (AVN) - A train carrying worked out nuclear fuel from the phased-off Northern Fleet submarines set off from the town of Severodvinsk to the Mayak plant in the Chelyabinsk region, a source in the Arkhangelsk region administration told the Military News Agency.
Governor Anatoly Yefremov visited the nuclear fuel transfer point before the departure of the train. Colonel Viktor Sumbulyan, deputy commander of the Belomorsk naval base for armament and maintenance, reported no incidents and deviations from the technological process during the transfer. The supervision was executed by radiation security specialists of the Northern Fleet and representatives of the Defence Ministry's state inspection of nuclear and radiation security.
