RUSSIAN SC MEMBERS TO DISCUSS COMPENSATIONS FOR MILITARY BENEFITS

MOSCOW, December 6 (AVN) - Members of the Russian presidential Security Council are expected to hold a meeting circa Friday to discuss introduction of bonus payments for servicemen as compensation of soon-to-be-abolished benefits, Lieutenant-General Viktor Burov, deputy head of the Defence Ministry main department for military budget and financing, told the Military News Agency.

The ministry proposes equating compensations with the sum of income tax paid by servicemen, Burov told the Military News Agency. As to housing, the servicemen are to pay for it in full, but their military units will reimburse them in accordance with normatives, which differ in dependence of the type of territory in which the unit is stationed, he said.

The compensation scheme for public transportation has not been developed yet. The Defence Ministry and the General Staff propose payment of compensations from the funds of the Finance Ministry or from the money the Defence Ministry transfers to the component parts of the federation in proportion to the number of servicemen stationed there. The local authorities should further distribute the financing among the services responsible for public transportation, Burov said.
