RUSSIAN CAR MAKER KAMAZ TO INCREASE PRODUCTION BY 40 PERCENT IN 2001

NABEREZHNYE CHELNY, Tatarstan, December 7 (AVN) - Automobile production volume at the KamAZ JS can be increased by 40 percent next year, Eduard Rapnitsky, KamAZ deputy director general, told the Military News Agency.

Such a breakthrough is deemed possible thanks to reorganisation of the enterprise management and restructuring of the plant's debts that amount to USD100m. Currently, talks with the European bank for reconstruction and development on such restructuring are underway.

According to Rapnitsky, a total of 25,000-26,000 vehicles of different models are planned to be produced in 2001. To increase co-operation ties and decrease internal expenses, the plant is working out plans on much closer co-operation with the subcontractors and component parts suppliers. In particular, a possibility of establishing a big industrial automobile holding on the basis of the KamAZ plant is considered.
