MOSCOW, December 9 (AVN) - Russian President Vladimir Putin will pay an official visit to Havana on December 14 - 18.
RF Defence Minister Igor Sergeyev is included into the Russian delegation, a source in the Defence Ministry told the Military News Agency.
Military and technical co-operation will be one of the key issues for the discussion, the source said. Cuban Armed Forces numbering 65,000 servicemen are considered to be most combat-ready in the Latin America. But the troops are equipped with outdated Soviet weapons and ordnance. Cuban leadership is going to renew its ordnance. This has not been done so far due to numerous reasons including coldness in relations with Russia.
Current Russia's policy aimed at gaining world markets is a good ground for re-equipping the Cuban Armed Forces, the source said. Now there are no reasons for both sides to restrict further contacts in the military sphere.
