ST.PETERSBURG, December 9 (AVN) - Medical Service Colonel Boris Gaidar was appointed chief of the Military Medical Academy under the presidential decree, a source in the academy told the Military News Agency.
Gaidar replaced Medical Service Colonel-General Yuri Shevchenko who became Minister of Health in the Russian government on July 5, 1999.
Prior to the current appointment, Doctor of Medicine Professor Gaidar, who shares the name with the Soviet writer and Russian ex prime minister, headed the academy's neurosurgery department and clinic.
The Military Medical Academy is the leading military educational establishment in Russia that prepares medical staff for the Armed Forces and is one of the world's largest scientific and medical centres.
Gaidar is 56. He has been with the army for 28 years.
