RF TULAMASHZAVOD MODERNISING AK-630M SHIP ARTILLERY SYSTEM

TULA, December 9 (AVN) - The Tulamashzavod plant started the second stage of modernising the AK-630M ship artillery system designed to counter anti-ship airborne missiles, helicopters and other air offensive means as well as to destroy small sea surface targets, sea mines, personnel and firing positions on shore, Yevgeny Dronov, plant's technical director, told the Military News Agency.

The first stage of modernising the system has been already completed, Dronov said. In particular, the speed of target orienting has been increased by 1.4 times, time necessary to deploy the system has been lowered from two minutes down to 30 seconds. The modernised system's orientation gear control station is equipped with a self diagnostics unit, which allows it to work in duty mode for 24 hours. The AK-630M is totally automatic but the loading process.

The second stage of the system's modernisation envisages creation of a small missile and artillery assembly consisting of four guided air defence missiles capable of hitting targets at a distance of 1,500 to 8,000 metres and at an altitude of 3,500 - 5,000 metres.
