RF AIR FORCE CHIEF DENIES POSSIBILITY OF PLANES ILLEGAL CROSSING RUSSIA-GEORGIA BORDER

MOSCOW, December 15 (AVN) - Anatoly Kornukov, RF Air Force commander, denied the Russian mass media rumour on air space violations on the Chechen part of the Russian-Georgian border, the Military News Agency learned.

During the whole anti-terrorist operation air defence troops discovered no flying vehicles from Georgia violating Russian air space. "Flying vehicles are impossible to be piloted across the border in mountains or above the clouds. They have to fly on the secure height and in this case can be easily discovered by the air defence devices," Kornukov said. Russian Air Force has all capabilities to prevent illegal flights in the area of anti-terrorist operation. "Two fighters crews always perform combat duty in that area and prevent any violations of RF air space," Kornukov added.

Judging the situation with air defence of illegal armed formations in Chechnya, Kornukov stressed than no rebel attacks were conducted on federal aviation. "Rebel formations have only small arms and practically no air defence systems," Kornukov mentioned.
