SLATINA, Yugoslavia, December 27 (AVN) - Visiting Russian Airborne Commander Georgy Shpak made a tour through all battalion-size task forces of the Russian Military Contingent within KFOR on Wednesday.
Shpak was accompanied by officers of the Airborne Staff and two deputies of the State Duma lower house of parliament - Major-General Vladim Orlov and Vladimir Vshivtsev. The group used military transport helicopters of the contingent's 27th air group, based on the Slatina airfield.
In the course of the trip, the commander visited the villages of Kamenica (US Sector East), Monastir Devic (French Sector North) and Malishevo (German Sector South), as well as the control post on the Elacha Mountain (US Sector East). He got acquainted with service conditions and everyday life of Russian peacekeepers in Kosovo.
Shpak also handed over awards and valuable gifts on many peacekeepers. For instance, he conferred the Order of Courage on Private Vasily Kara and the medal For Audacity on Sergeants Sergei Degtyarev and Maxim Rakov.
