BELARUSSIAN MILITARY ACADEMY BEGINS COMMAND-POST TRAINING COURSE

MINSK, January 18 (AVN) - As many as 82 officers of the Belarussian Armed Forces started training on the command-post department of the Belarussian Military Academy, a spokesman for the Academy's command told the Military News Agency on Thursday.

The department that was set up in May 1995 now trains 276 officers from the republican State Security Committee, Border Guard and Interior departments, railway troops and other law enforcement bodies. The command department course lasts for 2.5 years and has three specialties and 15 majors.

Besides, 116 officers enrolled in the academy are trained in Russian military schools, including 14 in the General Staff Academy. Until recently, Belarussian officers studied in military academies in the USA, Germany, Great Britain and France, but this co-operation has been effectively terminated. Only eight Belarussian servicemen are now abroad - seven medical officers and one military engineer study in Germany.
