SEVERAL REBEL CACHES DESTROYED IN CHECHNYA SINCE WEDNESDAY

KHANKALA, January 18 (AVN) - Federal scouts have eliminated several guerrilla caches in Chechnya in the past 24 hours, a spokesman for the unified federal headquarters in the North Caucasus said on Thursday.

The largest cache was found in a forest near the Kharsenoi village, the spokesman told the Military News Agency. It contained 27 assault rifles, three sniper rifles, 16 grenade launchers, 28 grenade launcher rounds, a portable air defence missile system, 8kg of explosives and 22 boxes of small arms cartridges.

Another cache containing an assault rifle, a grenade launcher and two bags with medicines was exposed near the village of Engenoi. An assault rifle, a Makarov pistol, five hunting rifles and 700 cartridges were kept in a cache not far from the Mairtup village.

Scouts also destroyed a cache with clothes and personal property of guerrillas near the village of Gansol-Chu.
