KHANKALA, January 19 (AVN) - Chechen rebels have attacked federal army and police positions 19 times in the past 24 hours, a spokesman for the unified federal headquarters said on Friday.
Sappers defused 14 explosive devices in various areas of the breakaway republic on Thursday, coming under guerrilla fire twice, the spokesman told the Military News Agency. Three home-made mines went off, injuring two people, he said.
Scouting parties spotted four blindages while combing forests, and detained two people without IDs not far from one of the fortifications. They also destroyed a hiding place with two assault rifles, a sniper rifle, a grenade launcher and nine magazines with cartridges near the Severny airfield.
