BAD WEATHER GROUNDS FEDERAL COMBAT PLANES IN CHECHNYA

KHANKALA, January 19 (AVN) - Federal SU-25 Frogfoot and SU-24 Fencer planes have been grounded by bad weather in Chechnya in the past 24 hours, while army aviation helicopters flew 18 sorties, a spokesman for the unified federal headquarters said on Friday.

MI-24 Hind helicopter gunships convoyed two federal motorcades and inflicted a strike on a rebel strongpoint, the spokesman told the Military News Agency. MI-8 Hip and MI-26 Halo transport helicopters airlifted 37 people and 3t of cargo to hard-to-reach areas of Chechnya in the interests of the military and the civilian administration.

An IL-76 Candid military transport took 193 servicemen and 2t of technical loads from the area of operation to central Russia.
