NEW ULYANOVSK GOVERNOR INAUGURATION CEREMONY TO BE HELD FRIDAY

ULYANOVSK, Volga Region, January 19 (AVN) - The inauguration of Lieutenant-General Vladimir Shamanov, elected governor of the ULyanovsk region, will be held here on Friday, the Military News Agency learned.

Deputy Prime Minister Ilya Klebanov, Russian Prosecutor General Vladimir Ustinov and other officials have congratulated the general on his winning the election.

The Chechnya administration will be represented at the inauguration ceremony by Sharip Alikhadzhiev, head of the Shali district administration. After the Khasavyurt agreements were signed Alikhadzhiev had to leave the republic and lived in other regions of Russia. During that period several attempts on his life were made.

Earlier in the day, Alikhadzhiev congratulated Shamanov on his election on behalf of the Chechen people and wished him good luck in leading the troublesome Ulyanovsk region.

Shamanov was a prominent federal commander in the second Chechnya campaign and earned gratitude of many Chechens.
