KALININGRAD, Western Russia, January 19 (AVN) - The last group of servicemen from the guard communication regiment of the Baltic Fleet land and coastal forces returned to Kaliningrad from the North Caucasus on Friday, a spokesman for the forces headquarters told the Military News Agency.
The soldiers served at the fleet's communication centre which was relocated to Chechnya in November 1999 to support activities of the unified federal group. The first shift under command of Lieutenant-Colonel Sergei Bezgan was replaced by servicemen led by Lieutenant-Colonel Alexei Okulov in spring 2000.
According to the federal command, the regiment personnel demonstrated high professional skills and provided reliable communication for troops and command bodies. More than 30 signalmen were granted orders and medals and more than 100 others were put up for awards.
The Baltic Fleet is not planning to dispatch its servicemen to Chechnya anymore, the spokesman said.
