KHANKALA, January 23 (AVN) - Federal helicopter gunships have flown about 30 sorties in Chechnya in the past 24 hours, while attack planes and bombers were not assigned any missions, a spokesman for the unified federal headquarters said on Tuesday.
MI-24 Hind helicopters convoyed three federal motorcades and inflicted two strikes on guerrilla groups in the eastern Chechen Nozhai-Yurt district, the spokesman told the Military News Agency. MI-8 Hip and MI-26 Halo helicopters transported 57 people and 4t of various cargo to hard-to-reach areas of Chechnya in the interests of the republic's economy and federal troops.
An IL-76 Candid transport airlifted 177 servicemen and 3t of technical loads from the area of operation to central Russia.
