KHANKALA, January 29 (AVN) - A mobile group of Chechen rebels attacked a federal checkpoint in the Leninsky district of Grozny at 13.00 local time (1000 GMT) on Sunday, a spokesman for the Interior Ministry's department for Chechnya told the Military News Agency on Monday.
The policemen fired back and managed to destroy a rebel vehicle. Four of the rebels hid in the near-by ruins. When the left vehicle was searched, the policemen found three grenade launchers, a pistol and a machine gun.
Rebels attacked a Ural truck carrying elite policemen with a rocket launcher in Grozny's Pobeda prospect at 20.30 local time (1730 GMT). The Interior Ministry reported no casualties. Three suspected rebels were detained during a search operation carried out in the wake of the incident.
Some 300 residents of Argun held a meeting at the crossroads of Gudermes and Shali streets demanding an end to the Chechen campaign.
