NEW ACADEMIC YEAR BEGINS IN BELARUSSIAN ARMY

MINSK, February 1 (AVN) - A new academic year started in the Belarussian Armed Forces on Thursday, a spokesman for the Belarussian Defence Ministry told the Military News Agency.

Combat training plans for 2001 were developed given plans for co-operation with the Russian army within the framework of the joint regional military force being established.

Particularly, along with the Combat Commonwealth 2001 coalition exercise, Belarussian Air Defence troops will fire at the Telemba firing range in the Siberian military district and will participate in other joint events.

The Belarussian Armed Forces number some 83,000 men, including 12,000 servicemen who were sworn in on Sunday.
