CONFLICT SETTLEMENT SEMINAR TO OPEN IN CENTRAL RUSSIA FRIDAY

SUZDAL, Central European Russia, February 2 (AVN) - A three-day international seminar devoted to settment of post-conflict situations similar to that in Kosovo will start here on Friday, Russian military delegation member Colonel Vladimir Plotnikov told the Military News Agency.

The Russian delegation is led by Lieutenant-General Anatoly Klemenko, head of the military and strategic research centre of the General Staff. It also includes Airborne Chief-of-Staff Lieutenant-General Nikolai Staskov, officers of the Defence Ministry main and central departments.

The main aim of the seminar is to work out general settlement principles for ethnic conflicts, inlcuding with the help of military contingents of international troops. The seminar will proceed from international experience in peacekeeping activity.

The event will also be attended by representatives of the Swedish Institute of International Affairs, the US military research centre, specialists from Great Britain and other countries, and officers of the NATO crisis management department.

Yevgeny Kozhokin, director of the Russian Strategic Research Institute, is supposed to speak at the seminar on Friday.
