MOSCOW, February 5 (AVN) - Rebel attacks and bomb explosions killed 766 servicemen of the Interior Ministry troops and law-enforcers in Chechnya last year, a spokesman for the ministry's personnel and staff policy department told the Military News Agency on Monday.
Besides, 2,318 servicemen and law-enforcers were injured during their missions in Chechnya, the spokesman said.
Hostilities involving law-enforcers and Chechen extremists still happen almost every day, the spokesman went on. The sabotage and terrorist activity of rebel groups is apparent throughout the republic where about 115 terrorist acts were registered last year. The terrorist activity takes toll not only among officials and law-enforcers, but among local citizens as well.
Interior Ministry units are currently busy providing conditions for restoration of peaceful life in Chechnya. They take part in special operations, guard important state and municipal installations and maintain law and order in Chechen localities.
