KHANKALA, February 6 (AVN) - Chechen rebels have launched 16 attacks on federal positions in the past 24 hours, a spokesman for the unified federal headquarters told the Military News Agency on Tuesday.
Three mine explosions and 11 casualties were registered. Engineers defused 11 explosive devices planted in localities and on motorways. They also cleared three ruined buildings in Grozny. A group of engineers was attacked when clearing debris on a road in the south-eastern Chechen Vedeno district. Support troops repelled the rebel attack.
According to the military, an arms cache and a sniper position located near the building of the local administration were spotted in the vicinity of the Svobodny airport near Grozny.
Special services say that federal scouts have detected movement of rebel groups and directed artillery fire on them three times since Monday.
