KALININGRAD, February 6 (AVN) - The Baltic Fleet military prosecutor's office withdrew over 670 unlawful orders and legal acts of the fleet's military and civilian command in 2000, Major-General German Shtadler, the Baltic Fleet military prosecutor, said at an enlarged session of the prosecutor's office collegium on Tuesday.
Their contradiction to federal laws was disclosed during 2,000 check-ups carried out by the office last year. The fleet's command received some 350 proposals to correct the legal abuses, and some 970 officials have been reprimanded and fined. The redress amounted to RUR6.6m (USD232,000).
An increase in the number of offences registered in the supervised units has been marked for the first time in the past several years. Considering the above, priorities in the work of the prosecutor's office in 2001 are protection of rights, life and health of servicemen and their family members, protection of federal property and economic interests of the state, said Shtadler.
