RUSSIAN DM STARTS BALKANS TRIP WITH BOSNIA

TUZLA, Bosnia and Herzegovina, February 6 (AVN) - A Russian military delegation headed by Defence Minister Igor Sergeyev arrived in Bosnia on Tuesday, the Military News Agency learned.

Meeting Sergeyev in the Tuzla airport were Russian Airborne Commander Georgy Shpak, Russian Ambassador to Bosnia Alexander Grishchenko, SFOR Commander Lieutenant-General Michael Dodson and other officials.

In Tuzla Sergeyev held an extensive discussion with Dodson and Major-General Walter Sharp, commander of Multinational Division North, of which the 1st Russian separate airborne brigade is a component part. The officials touched upon presence of Russian peacekeepers in SFOR, implementation of military aspects of the Dayton accords, and results of co-operation between Russian and US units in peacekeeping operations in north-western Bosnia.

The delegation will devote the second half of the day to visiting Ugljevic, the headquarters of the 1st Russian separate airborne brigade. Sergeyev will listen to the report of the brigade commander, Colonel Vladimir Demidov, about the peacekeeping activities of Russian paratroopers in their area of responsibility in south-eastern Bosnia. After that Sergeyev will is likely to visit one of the areas under Russian control.

The defence minister's plane is to land in Belgrade at 21.00 Moscow time (1800 GMT) on Tuesday.
