UNIFIED LOGISTICS SUPPORT SYSTEM PROVES EFFICIENT IN CHECHNYA

MOSCOW, February 6 (AVN) - The unified logistics support system of all law-enforcement agencies has confirmed its efficiency in the area of operation in the North Caucasus, Colonel-General Vladimir Isakov, deputy defence minister and commander of the Armed Forces rear, said on Tuesday.

Establishment of an all-Russian unified logistics support system is the main aim of the law-enforcement logistics reform, Isakov told reporters. The reduction will primarily concern logistics command bodies, while military units are likely to remain intact, he said.

The unified system will be established in several Russian regions by the end of 2001, the general went on. The Far East, the Trans-Baikal region and regions of the Russian North will be the first to integrate logistics support structures of the Armed Forces, Federal Border Guard Service and Interior Ministry troops, he said.

Preparations for establishment of unified transport, medical and sanatorium systems that will serve all military units in Russia are nearing completion, Isakov noted.

Economic efficiency of the new system's adoption will make at least 10 percent, he added.
