HEAD OF CHECHNYA'S DYSHNE-VEDENO VILLAGE ASSASSINATED

KHANKALA, February 15 (AVN) - The administration head of the Dyshne-Vedeno village was found dead with gunshot injuries in the head in his own house overnight to Thursday, a spokesman for the unified federal headquarters told the Military News Agency.

A prosecutor, military commandant and district police department head went to the Agish Batoi village in the south-eastern Chechen Vedeno district where the murder occurred, the spokesman said.

This is not the first case when guerrillas kill their countrymen that co-operate with the federals. Warlords have established special punishing groups for such actions. Castigators killed four locals in the Alkhan-Kala village alone from February 8 to 13, the spokesman noted.

One of the victims was the son of Aslanbek Kurbanov, famous for his actions against Wahhabis. Kurbanov took part in negotiations with federals many times, and guerrillas sentenced him to death beforehand for his efforts to stabilise the situation in the region.
