RADIATION BACKGROUND EXCEEDS NORM 1,500 TIMES IN GROZNY SCHOOL

GROZNY, February 19 (AVN) - The radiation background exceeds the maximum permissible level 1,500 times in some spots of a Grozny school, a spokesman for the Chechen Emergencies Ministry said on Monday.

The ministry's experts took away two powerful ionising radiation sources from School 38 in Grozny's Leninsky district last week, the spokesman told the Military News Agency. The radiation contaminated the territory of about 100 square metres around the building.

The highest radiation level is registered near a pile of concrete plates in the school's backyard, the spokesman said. The ministry's specialists made an approach road to the location over the weekend. Experts of the Grozny-based Radon enterprise are charged to remove the rubbish and deactivate the contaminated territory.
