FED ATTACK PLANES DESTROY REBEL CAMP IN SOUTHERN CHECHNYA

KHANKALA, February 21 (AVN) - Federal Su-25 Frogfoot attack planes have accomplished two missions in Chechnya since Tuesday, hammering guerrilla installations in hard to reach areas of the southern Chechen Argun gorge, a spokesman for the unified federal headquarters told the Military News Agency.

The attack planes eliminated a guerrilla camp earlier exposed by air scouts, the spokesman said. Meanwhile, MI-8 Hip, MI-24 Hind and MI-26 Halo helicopters accomplished over 40 missions. MI-24 fire support helicopters convoyed five military motorcades, destroyed two rebel strong-points and attacked three small guerrilla groups. Transport helicopters carried 4t of loads in the interests of the federal troops and at the requests of the Chechnya administration.

An IL-76 Candid military transport airlifted 221 servicemen to central Russia, the spokesman added.
