KHANKALA, February 21 (AVN) - A group of Ukrainian mercenaries posing as federal servicemen is operating in Chechnya, a spokesman for the unified federal headquarters in the North Caucasus said on Wednesday.
The temporary police department of Gudermes has learned that a 29-year-old man turned up at a local hospital with a splinter injury of the head, the spokesman told the Military News Agency. A duty servicemen of the Gudermes military commandant's office carried out a brief check and found out that the man was not on the list of federal servicemen and the unit that the man referred to as his own never existed. Investigation is underway.
Several rebel groups posing as federal servicemen operate in the troubled republic, committing acts of terrorism and provocation, the spokesman said.
