VOLGA MILITARY DISTRICT CHIEF PRAISES RESULTS OF WAR GAMES IN TAJIKISTAN

SAMARA, February 22 (AVN) - The Volga military district commander, Colonel General Anatoly Sergeyev, is satisfied with results of the 201st motorised rifle division's exercise in Tajikistan, a spokesman for the district headquarters said on Wednesday.

The war games were held in forest-covered mountains together with Tajik army units, the spokesman told the Military News Agency. They aimed to practise elimination of large guerrilla gangs and terrorist groups penetrating from Afghanistan.

"Units and formations of the Russian division and the Tajik army totalling about 5,000 people and up to 100 pieces of armament provided by the Tajik party demonstrated good co-ordination and successfully accomplished all assigned missions," Sergeyev said.

The 201st division organic to the Volga district is stationed in Tajikistan on a permanent basis.
