MOSCOW, February 22 (AVN) - Russian Air Force Commander Anatoly Kornukov denied on Thursday that air space violations had taken place at the Chechen strap of the Russia-Georgia border.
Kornukov told the Military News Agency he had no facts confirming media reports on border violations. He said, however, that somebody would try to violate the border in the future, using a light-engine plane.
"Everything is possible on that border section. There is no continuous radar field at low heights, and the situation is monitored by visual observation posts," Kornukov said.
According to him, aircraft violating the Russian airspace will meet a tough response. On-duty units of the Air Force and Air Defence are in the stand-by mode, he added.
