AIRCRAFT INDUSTRY PROBLEMS RAISED AT SAMARA TRADE UNION SESSION

SAMARA, Volga Region, February 22 (AVN) - The Samara region trade union federation held a session on Thursday to discuss issues related to the region's aviation and rocket-space industry, a spokesman for the regional administration told the Military News Agency.

Attending the session were Yevgeny Yegorov, deputy governor of the Samara region, Vladimir Doronin, head of the department for industry and trade, Pyotr Ozherebov, chairman of the regional aircraft industry trade union, Igor Shitarev, president of the Samara region employers' union, as well as trade union leaders of the Motorostroitel JS, Samara scientific and technical complex named after Kuznetsov, Aviakor aircraft plant, and Salyut JS.

The decision of the Aeroflot-Russian Airlines to purchase some 50 A-320 airbuses in Europe triggered the session. Addressing those present, Kazakov said that the regional administration has a clear picture of Aviakor's problems related to repairs of TU-154 aircraft and production of new planes of the family. According to him, Russia forgot about the model long ago, whereas it can be successfully operated and upgraded. Production of TU-154s should continue, stressed Kazakov.

Also raised at the session were production of NK-93 engines by Samara enterprises and establishment of a holding that could include aircraft producers from the cities of Ulyanovsk, Kazan and Samara.

The participants of the session sent a telegram to President Vladimir Putin expressing the need to revive the domestic aircraft industry.
