FED AIRCRAFT HAMMERING GUERRILLAS IN SOUTHERN CHECHNYA

KHANKALA, February 27 (AVN) - Federal SU-25 Frogfoot attack planes have flown two sorties and MI-8 Hip, MI-24 Hind and MI-26 halo a total of 34 sorties in Chechnya in the past 24 hours, a spokesman for the unified federal headquaters told the Military News Agency on Tuesday.

The main strikes were inflicted on guerrilla groups in hard-to-reach areas of the southern Chechen Argun gorge, the spokesman said. Their results are being verified. MI-24 Hind helicopters escorted three federal military convoys, while other aircraft set up two abatis on mountain paths.

IL-76 Candid transport planes carried 8t of technical cargo to Mozdok, the main federal base in the North Caucasus, and took 219 servicemen from the area of operations to central Russia on their way back.
