MOSCOW, March 5 (AVN) - The Russian committee on military and technical co-operation with foreign states began to work out proposals concerning the signing of the first arms trade contract with Iran, a spokesman for the Russian Defence Ministry told the Military News Agency on Monday.
Russia is planning to supply arms to Iran in early 2002. Teheran is primarily interested in S-300 air defence missile systems, MI-17 helicopters (which are variant of MI-8 Hip helicopters) and SU-25 Frogfoot attack planes.
According to a competent source, committee members believe that the first arms trade contracts with Iran will be signed as early as May this year.
