KHANKAKA, March 11 (AVN) - Chechen rebels have assumed a total of 140 attacks on federal positions and installations in the past week, compared with 175 the week before, including 115 in Grozny, a spokesman for the unified federal headquarters told the Military News Agency on Sunday.
In Grozny, rebels were most active in the Leninsky district bringing the number of attacks to 68, the spokesman said.
There have been 21 landmine explosions in the past week, compared with 16 the week before. Engineers defused 35 landmines (15 were defused during the previous week), 25 anti-tank and personnel mines.
Military and police units jointly carried out 13 operations in the vicinity of Alleroi, Yalkhoi-Mohk, Dyshne-Vedeno, Serzhen-Yurt, Prigorodnoye, Achkhoi-Martan, and Mekhety. As many as 13 dug-outs, 14 arms caches, and 124 illegal oil refineries were destroyed. Law enforcers seized 46 grenade launchers, 378 hand grenades, 32 hunting rifles, and 24,599 cartridges.
Federal tactical aircraft flew 35 sorties, while attack planes accomplished 10 missions. About 10 rebel installations were destroyed, including three bases east of Ulus-Kert, as well as mortar positions in the vicinity of Agishty and Zandak. A total of 52 rebels were either arrested or surendered.
