CHECHEN REBELS LAUNCH 16 ATTACKS ON FEDS SINCE MAR.10

KHANKALA, March 11 (AVN) - Chechen rebels have launched 16 attacks on federal positions and installations in the past 24 hours, a spokesman for the unified federal headquarters told the Military News Agency on Sunday.

Guerrillas attacked a railcar on the Gudermes-Argun span wounding a railwayman.

Engineers defused 12 explosive devices, including two landmines planted on routes used by military convoys and civilian traffic. Sappers cleared 200 meters of Grozny's utility piping and three ruined houses of mines. Over 20 hectares of cropland were cleared of mines at the request of local civilian administrations.
