GEORGIAN BORDER GUARD CHIEF TO LEAVE FOR ISRAEL

TBILISI, March 12 (AVN) - Chairman of the Georgian State Border Protection Department Valery Chkheidze will leave for an official visit to Israel on Monday, a spokesman for the department told the Military News Agency.

Chkheidze has never been to Israel since taking his current post, the spokesman said. He is expected to meet leaders of the Israeli Defence Ministry and the border guard department and visit several defence industry enterprises.

Chkheidze is going to study the Israeli experience in involving civilian people in the state border defence, the spokesman said. Taking into account activities of organised criminal groups and military operations in Chechnya, which borders Georgia from the north, Chkheidze would like to study the Israeli methods of combating terrorist groups as well as protection of territories located close to the conflict zone.
