RAILROAD MINISTRY STOPS FREE TRANSPORTATION OF SERVICEMEN

KALININGRAD, March 12 (AVN) - Booking offices of the Kaliningrad railway have stopped provision of free tickets for servicemen of the Russian Armed Forces, head of the Kaliningrad terminal Vyacheslav Danshin said on Monday.

Provision of free tickets was stopped at the order of the Railway Ministry, Danshin told the Military News Agency. Free transportation of servicemen will resume after the Defence Ministry pays compensation for it, as it has not transferred any money to railroads this year, the order said.

Colonel Alexander Morozil, first deputy military prosecutor of the Baltic Fleet, told the Agency that the railroad's leadership violated the federal law "Concerning the Status of Servicemen".

"We see such actions of railroaders every year. Prosecutors will take measures within their competence," Morozli said. He did not elaborate on what measures would be taken.

The ban of provision of free tickets left hundreds of soldiers and their family members without a possibility to travel for vacations and treatment and to make service trips.
