PETROPAVLOVSK-KAMCHATSKY, March 12 (AVN) - The Kamatka region prosecutor's office brought charges of poaching in the Russian economic zone against the captain, chief officer and the captain's deputy assistant of the Albatros-101 seiner, a spokesman for the North Eastern regional border guard department told the Military News Agency.
The accused were placed in a detention centre where they will await the trial. If found guilty, they may be sentenced to two years in prison, the spokesman said. Other 25 members of the seiner's crew were freed on Monday due to expiration of the 10-day preliminary detention term. They are staying at the Volna resort base in the town of Paratunk. The fishermen claim that they were beaten in the detention centre but none of them bears traces of battery.
The seiner was drowned by the Kamchatka region border guards on February 22.
