KHANKALA, March 13 (AVN) - Chechen rebels have launched 17 attacks on federal positions and installations since Monday, a spokesman for the unified federal headquarters told the Military News Agency.
A group of engineers was attacked in the Nozhai-Yurt district while carrying out a mine clearing operation in the farm land.
Engineers defused on Monday a total of 29 explosive devices, including three powerful landmines planted on routes used by military and civil transport. A GAZ-66 truck hit a mine and the driver was injured.
Federal special force teams destroyed an arms cache in a cave and two dug-outs. Scouts collected five assault rifles, two grenade launchers, 10kg of TNT and two boxes of rebel propaganda material - booklets, leaflets and video tapes with warlords Shamil Basayev's and Khattab's speeches.
One of the scout teams attacked rebels in the Vedeno district, killing four and capturing two.
