STAVROPOL, March 13 (AVN) - Border guards of the North Caucasus regional border guard department have detained two border violators during the past 24 hours, a department spokesman told the Military News Agency on Tuesday.
One of the detained, resident of the Mariy-El republic, tried to cross the Russia-Azerbaijan border illegally on the Derbent detachment's border strap, the spokesman said. The other, resident of Afghanistan, tried to enter Russia through the Verhny Baskunchak checkpoint securing the help of a passenger train conductor. The Afghanistani had an expired visa.
A resident of Chechnya's Urus-Martan was detained at the Yarag-Kazmalyar strongpoint in Dagestan. The man trying to leave for Azerbaijan had fresh traces of wounds on his body. Border guards are checking whether he belongs to any rebel groups.
Border guards register increasing activity of poachers of the Caspian and Azov Seas while the weather is getting warm. They found two motorboats, 500 meters of sturgeon nets and a sawn-off hunting rifle in the Caspian Sea shore area controlled by the Kochubei picket. A detachment of the Timashev separate border commandant's office detained two locals for an unsanctioned sailing into the Azov Sea late on Monday.
The situation in the area controlled by the the North Caucasus department is still stable, the spokesman said. Border guards have registered no attacks at border checkpoints and pickets at the Chechen and adjacent border straps in the past 24 hours.
