SOME 1,000 SOLDIERS OF MOSCOW DISTRICT TO BE WITHDRAWN FROM CHECHNYA

KHANKALA, March 14 (AVN) - A commission of the Moscow military district has arrived in Chechnya to define the amount of troops and armament to be withdrawn from the breakaway republic and the term of their withdrawal, a spokesman for the unified federal headquarters said on Wednesday.

The unified federal group in the North Caucasus includes three regiment-size task forces of the Moscow district, namely those of the 15th and 245th motorised rifle regiments and of the 99th self-propelled artillery regiment, the spokesman told the Military News Agency.

The federal troops reduction plan envisages the return of some 1,000 servicemen to their permanent stationing areas in the Moscow and Nizhny Novgorod regions, the spokesman went on. He declined to disclose a more exact term of the withdrawal.

It is yet have to be decided what portion of the Moscow district's artillery systems and military equipment will be handed over to the 42nd motorised rifle division that is stationed in Chechnya permanently, the spokesman stressed. It is also unclear where soldiers who have signed a contract for service in the North Caucasus will get their money. Having settled this issues, the commission will make a final calculation of the number of carrier vehicles required for relocation of the troops. According to the spokesman, commission members will get down to calculations in a week or later.
